Research

  • Most people who recover from Covid-19 remain shielded from the virus for at least six months, researchers reported on Wednesday in a large study from Denmark. Another study published in the Lancet medical journal shows Coronavirus reinfections are rare, except in people 65 and older.
  • A promising treatment for Covid-19 has been discovered: the evaluation of clofazimine as an at-home treatment for COVID-19 in a phase 2 study could begin immediately. It’s also been found that low-dose aspirin may help protect the lungs and reduce the risk of death of Covid-19, a team at George Washington University reported.
  • A single shot of either the Pfizer or Oxford vaccine provides about 80 per cent protection against illness requiring hospital treatment, according to the latest data from the UK vaccination programme. Meanwhile, a new study from Oxford University confirms AstraZeneca, Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines are effective against variants.

UK

  • Scotland’s vaccination program has delivered first doses of the vaccine to more than two million people – 44% of the adult population. People aged 50-54 are now being invited for a jab in England. This is the final group on the priority list, which covers 99% of those at high risk of dying from Covid-19.
  • UK Government announced a £7 billion package for health and care services to support the next phase of the NHS response to COVID-19.

US
